Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my batteries failing after 6 months? on May 02, 2009
Usually batteries have a warranty for 6 months when used in heavy discharge situations such as electric vehicles.  If you treat your batteries right you will be able to extend their life.  Batteries should never be discharged fully.  If you look at a typical discharge curve vs number of cycles you will see that most manufacturers give the batteries about 300 charges if you empty the battery fully, but if you only discharge it 60% that goes up to 500 charges, and if you discharge it 30% then you may get 800.  So to sum up - plug in your EV as regularly as possible, at home - at work - wherever.

How often do I have replace my batteries? on Mar 29, 2008
This is a commonly asked question.  Most EV batteries used in India employ a lead-acid chemistry.  The normal life of a battery is measured in charge cycles.  Lead-acid batteries usually give you between 300 and 500 charges before they lose capacity.  So if you were to empty and recharge your bike every day it would last you less than 1 year.

Why don't I see these products in showrooms? on Sep 30, 2007
Many of the products you see on this site are sitting in warehouses waiting to be put on the road.  Every product over 250W requires ARAI approval and this process is being held up.  There are many who believe that electric vehicles are not wanted by certain people due to the fact that it will encroach on their market.
With any luck ARAI will approve many of these vehicles in the coming months.

Are electric vehicles cheaper to operate than standard petrol vehicles? on Jun 13, 2007
Yes.  The running cost of electric vehicles is substantially lower.  However, you have to factor in the replacement of batteries.  Depending on the vehicle and battery capacity this will be a recurring expense every 2 years.

How far can an electric bike go on a single charge? on Jun 13, 2007
This depends on various factors.  Refer to the specifications of the bike in the Products section.  If you are constantly driving at the maximum speed with two people, the distance will be greatly reduced.  However, driving at the recommended speed will ensure better performance.
